Volunteers come with all sorts of interests. At the Hudson Library & Historical Society, you can choose the kind of activity and time that suits you best. Consider some of these fun-filled and challenging options:

KNOW-IT-ALL: Think you know everything about the Hudson Library? Enjoy giving people direction? Now’s your chance to put your knowledge of the library to the test. You’ll be helping us man our information kiosk, assisting patrons by pointing them in the right direction according to their particular need. Time commitment is a minimum of two hours a week.

TEEN CENTRAL MONITOR:  Love teens? Love their energy? We need volunteers to oversee Teen central - answering basic library directional questions and keeping the room orderly. We need volunteers who are available during weekdays, 2:30-8:00 pm.

HISTORY SLEUTH:  Love a good mystery? Local history buff? If you have an interest in genealogy or local history, we’ll train you to answer basic genealogy and/or local history questions. We especially need volunteers who are available during the weekends and evenings.

JACK OF ALL TRADES: Love the library - just because? Would love to help out in some way but unsure of where your interests lie?  If you love everything from books and magazines to DVDs and CDs, then sign up to be a JACK OF ALL TRADES. You’ll have an opportunity to work in a variety of areas - adult, children or young adult - and with a variety of formats - books, magazines, videos or CDs. Duties include organizing and inventorying collections, cleaning and pulling damaged materials.  There are also opportunities to help out with program preparation and assistance, outdoor weeding, assembling booklists and more. Time commitment is a minimum of two hours a week, during weekdays.

PACKRAT: Love books? Love to organize? Volunteer your time with the Inter-library loan staff and assist in boxing up books for deliveries to other libraries. If you like to keep busy, are able to bend and lift boxes, and can offer a minimum commitment of two morning hours per week, we’d love to have you.

TECHWIZARD:  Do you love technology? Are you willing to share your knowledge? By volunteering in our computer center, you can assist patrons with their questions on basic computer functions, MS office applications and/or Photoshop.

FRIENDS BOOKSTORE: Are you a friend of the library? If you love talking with people and love books, we’ll train you to sort and separate books as well as help man the friends check out counter in their new bookstore.  Time commitment is a minimum of two hours a week.
