The Friends of the Hudson Library is a non-profit volunteer organization committed to supporting the library in all of its endeavors and in broadening the scope of services and activities. Since 1951, the Friends' goal has always been the same: "To be a group organized to better the services of the library to the community."

The Friends presented a check for $5,000 to the Hudson Library at the library’s ten year celebration gala on June 5, 2015.  Proceeds of the check will be used to purchase new display shelves for the Children’s Wing.

It is only through the generous contributions of books from the community and the dedication of volunteers that the Friends can make this possible.  Volunteers are busy Monday through Friday sorting and shelving donated books.  Our sale days are held the first Saturday and third Thursday of each month from 9am to 4:30pm.  Also, for the past two years, we have opened our doors every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm for short sales which have proven to be quite popular.

We invite you to volunteer to join with us in the continuing process of turning used books into profit which funds new adult and children’s books, DVDs, music, special programs, software for training and equipment to aid the library in its endeavor to bring its patrons the best materials and services.  We have also donated $3000 each year for the past three years to the Children’s Summer Reading Program which is a very popular program.

We would like you to join us and all it takes is a free two hours a week either sorting or selling to being part of this community involved group.  Stop in the Friends room off the front lobby of the library for more information.

We also invite you to become a member of the Friends through our annual membership campaign which is held in January.  Membership monies are added to book sale profits and together make the total that the Friends donates to the library.  Let us all make use of this wonderful facility, stay tuned to the programs provided and remember the Friends if you would like to be part of this helpful and productive arm of the Hudson Library.

Why join the Friends?  Across the country, Friends groups support libraries in ways that keep the institutes special, and Hudson's Friends group is a prime example.  From sponsoring special events for adults and children to funding an Instructional Computer Lab, the Friends have assisted in bringing more services to our patrons. If you have questions about becoming a Friend, please call Membership Chairperson Tim Howlett at tphowl@roadrunner.com
