Preparing for Pandemic@ your Library

The Hudson Library & Historical Society will host the program, “Preparing for Pandemic Influenza” on March 6 at 7 p.m.  The guest speaker will be Kristi Kato of the Summit County Health District.

Kato is a Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for developing and coordinating pandemic influenza outreach for Summit County businesses, first responders, faith-based communities, learning communities, health care facilities, and the general public.  She will present a short history of pandemic influenza and preparations for, what many experts say, is a pending pandemic.

A worldwide influenza pandemic could have a major effect on the global economy, including travel, trade, tourism, food, investment and financial markets. Planning for pandemic influenza by business and industry is essential to minimize a pandemic's impact. Companies that provide critical infrastructure services, such as power and telecommunications, also have a special responsibility to plan for continued operation in a crisis and should plan accordingly. As with any catastrophe, having a contingency plan is essential.

Kato will also talk about why preparing the community for emergencies is part of the Summit County Health District’s mission.Through its programs and activities, the Health District seeks to create a healthful environment and ensure the accessibility of health services to all.
