Computer classes taught in the Computer Center of the Hudson Library & Historical Society are designed to introduce participants to computers, the Internet, its contents, and its uses. The Computer Center is located on the second floor.

 BEGINNING EXCEL  Monday, May 19th, 7:00 PM
An introduction to Microsoft spreadsheet software, where you'll learn the basics of the Excel Worksheet and how to format data
 PHOTOBOOK 101 Monday, June 2nd, 7:00 PM

Have you been noticing those hardbound photobooks that make wonderful keepsakes of memories captured on a digital camera?  Want to make a photobook of your own with photos of your precious grandbaby, or your daughter's dance recital, or your son's athletic season, or your parents' wedding anniversary celebration, or some other special memory?  If your answers are YES, come and learn how you can become a photobook author using FREE software! (note: purchase of a photobook is optional).

Prerequisite:  Students should know how to use a computer, how to access, open, close, and save files, and how to use a mouse.  Students should bring with them a CD or thumb drive containing at least 10 digital photos.

Computer Class Series For New Users:

Beginning Computer Series**----Intermediate Computer Series**---Advanced Computer Series**

Advanced Computer Series
Classes are specifically designed for individuals who have some knowledge of computers, the internet and are familiar with email but are not comfortable with technology.  It is recommended to have completed the Beginning and Intermediate Computer Series.
Basic Email
Find out how you can set up your own web-based email account.  Participants should be able to maneuver a mouse. 
Beginning Computer Series
Classes run for 3 weeks, 1 hour per class.  These classes are especially designed for individuals who have never used a computer before.  Classes are small, allowing attendees to receive individualized instruction.  Week One is an overview and introduction to computers; Week Two is an introduction to the internet; Week Three email is explained. 

Blogging 
In this class, students will learn about blogs, how to create one and how to update it.  An email address and basic knowledge of computers and the Internet is required. 

Computer Craft Class
Microsoft Publisher will be used in these classes to create a seasonal piece of computer art.  Microsoft Word & mouse skills are prerequisites.
Digital Cameras Made Easy
This class will provide an overview on digital cameras - how they work and how to use them.  This class would be helpful for those who are considering buying a digital camera, and for those who own a camera and want to learn more about using it.  This is a 3 or 4 class course.  Please plan to attend all segments.  After you signup for the class, please email: DCMEPhotos@windstream.net with the type and model of the digital camera that you will use in the class.  See Digital Camera Links for additional useful information.
Digital Photo Editing Made Easy
In this class  you will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements to edit your digital images.  This will include:  how to open images; crop-resize images;  adjust brightness, contrast, shadows, midtones, & highlights;  fix red-eye,  scratches,  blemishes, & other defects;  how to use image touchup & modification tools;  how to make panoramic images by combining two or more images together;  and finally how to safely store and save your images.  Elements is available on many of the computers at the library.  The course will consist of three two hour classes.  To facilitate learning,  each class will be divided into half instructional and half hands on & practice.

Learn the basics of safe buying on Ebay.
EBay - Selling
Learn the basics of safe selling on Ebay.
Ebsco Periodical Database  
Ebscohost provides full text coverage for over 1700 periodicals covering a wide variety of subjects, including general reference, business, health, and many others.  This class will look at how to access the different databases contained in Ebscohost, and the information contained in them.
Electric Quilt
Learn how to use this software to design your quilt, and pick material to compliment your design.
Excel 2003 I
An introduction to Microsoft spreadsheet software, where you'll learn the basics of the Excel Worksheet and how to format data.
Excel 2003 II
The second class moves beyond the basics and into calculations and functions.
Excel 2003: Charts
This class will teach you how to create simple charts and graphs using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software.
FrontPage I - Intro to Web Page Development
Basics for creating a web page using Microsoft Front Page.  A Digital Camera will be used to take your picture so you may insert it on a web page about you.
FrontPage II - More Web Page Development
This class will delve deeper into FrontPage & will add animations and marquees to a web page.

Intermediate Computer Series
This series is specifically designed for individuals who have some knowledge of computers, the internet and are familiar with email or have taken the Beginning Computer Series.  Classes run for 3 weeks,1 hour per class.  Classes are small to allow for individualized instruction.
Internet Security
This class introduces the fundamentals of information technology security and Internet concerns to the user. It will look at spyware, adware, viruses, shopping, chat and other tools that may pose vulnerability issues.
Internet Skills
This class concentrates on the wealth of options and features that Internet Explorer has to offer. Learn how to create and organize favorites as well as saving and printing WebPages.
Introduction to Computers
Introduction to Computers is for anyone in need of hands on practical advice and guidance.  We will offer a mouse tutorial for anyone with little or no experience using one before as well as answering other basic computer “how-to” questions.
Introduction to Genealogy Online
This class will assist you in getting started in genealogy by discussing what is available at the Hudson Library Archives as well as significant web sites.  The class will also cover standard practices and forms used in genealogy.
Library Online Catalog
Having trouble finding books at the Hudson Library?  If you need some information about finding items on our online catalog, register for this class. 
Microsoft 2003 Power Point
Create a Power Point slide show with animations and preset timings.
Introduction to Microsoft 2003 Publisher
Learn the basics of Publisher--the toolbars, the menu bars; inserting, deleting, copying, re-sizing, and manipulating text and objects.  This class is a requirement for other Microsoft Publisher 2003 classes.
Microsoft 2003 Publisher - How to make a Tri-fold Brochure
Learn to make a tri-fold brochure using Publisher.  Students must have taken "Introduction to Microsoft Publisher 2003" or at least be familiar with the basics of Publisher.  Bring a disk to save a copy to take home.
Microsoft 2003 Publisher - How to make a Holiday Newsletter
Learn to make a holiday newsletter using Publisher.  Students must have taken "Introduction to Microsoft Publisher 2003" or at least be familiar with the basics of Publisher.  Bring a disk to save a copy to take home.
Microsoft Word 2003 Basics - General overview of Microsoft Word.
Patents of Invention as Genealogical Resources
This computer class will examine how one can access and utilize the more than 7 million American Patents now online for genealogical research. Patents have been issued since 1790 and contain a wealth of information concerning the average American who sought to preserve their rights as inventors. No prior knowledge of patents or genealogy is required.
Photoshop Elements 4.0 - 2 part Series
Learn how to work with all the 'tools', to "clean-up" and modify images,  and to work with layers & filters.  Must be able to use a mouse effectively
Research Databases for Homework 
Learn to use and cite a variety of online databases for homework help – includes Access Science, Oxford Reference Online, Biography Resource Center and Literature Resource Center.
Research Databases for Adults 
Databases are collections of specialized information. Learn about the many Databases available at the Hudson Library & Historical Society  you can access to find information on a wide range of topics including medical, health, business, government magazine and newspaper articles and more.
Searching the Internet
Participants will be introduced to a variety of ways to search for topics using search engines and directories. This class will introduce simple and advanced search techniques. Knowledge of Internet basics is required for this session.
Create a Digital Image 101 
This class will learn to scan an image and to take a digital picture and then modify it in Photoshop Elements.    Please bring an item to scan and your digital camera.
Windows XP  Operating System - I
Basics on working in any Microsoft Windows environment will be covered.  Learn what the icons on your desktop are, how to create shortcuts, and how to use your toolbar.
Windows XP Operating System - II
This class will pick up where Beginning Windows 2000 left off.
