Paul Stranahan Trio to play
at the Hudson Library
Native Hudsonite Paul Stranahan and his Paul Stranahan Trio will
perform at the Hudson Library
Sunday,
August 8 at 2:00 p.m.
The program will include original compositions, jazz standards and
some jazz-rock fusion. The group has just released its third CD,
"The Art of Knowing," featuring Stranahan, Chris Herald, and Jeremey
Poparad.
The Trio has recently returned from performing at the Festival
International de Musiques Universities (FIMU
www.fimu.com) in Belfort,
France. Following the festival, the trio traveled to Landsberg am
Lech, Germany, Hudson's Sister City. Their concert at Landsberg was
arranged by Roland Winzer, retired Hudson High School German teacher
and founder of the exchange program The Friendship
Connection. Winzer also lined up host families for trio members.
According to Stranahan, "Because of the sister city arrangement
between Hudson and Landsberg, we got a lot of publicity and a great
turnout for the concert. They were a great audience too. They really
listened and enjoyed what we were playing. It was quite a treat. We
even got a really good review in the local newspaper, Landsberger
Tagblatt."
Finally, the group went on to Marburg, Germany, where they performed
their last concert and stayed with more of Winzer's friends.
All trio members have strong ties to Northeast Ohio. Drummer
Stranahan is a graduate of Hudson High School, where he studied
German under Winzer; guitarist Poparad is an alumni of Akron U and
teaches at Hudson’s Western Reserve Music. Bassist Gleghorn
is also a sought-after performer in the area, having played with Bob
Fraser, Bob Ferrazza, Gene Parker, and of course Stranahan.
