Library Hosts Entrepreneurship
Programs College Fair
For all of the
entrepreneurs of tomorrow who are in high school today, a college
fair with a decidedly different approach will be held at the Hudson
Library & Historical Center on Thursday, February 25th at
7:00 p.m. in recognition of National Entrepreneurship Week. Member
institutions of the
Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC), a network of nine
colleges and universities in the northeast Ohio region, will all be
on hand to provide
information on each of their entrepreneurship programs to area high
school students. Participating EEC institutions include Ashland
University,
Baldwin-Wallace College, Case Western Reserve University,
Cleveland State University,
Hiram College,
John Carroll University,
Kent State University,
Lake Erie College, and the University of Akron.
A panel of
current students of the EEC programs who have developed their own
business concepts will also be available to discuss their
experiences
both in school and out in the “real world.” Some of the businesses
featured will include “Greenolies,” an edible oat spoon, and the
“Silent Security”
personal security device.
Many of the
panelists conceptualized their businesses at the consortium’s
Entrepreneurship Immersion Week (EIW), an annual week-long
event in
which teams of students from each of the EEC schools are fully
immersed in entrepreneurship through classroom sessions,
entrepreneur speakers
and many networking opportunities. At the end of the week the teams
present their concepts to a panel of external judges in a
competition.
Participants in EIW are selected through an application process that
results in five students being chosen for each EEC school who end up
comprising
the teams.
The Entrepreneurship Education Consortium was
initiated with a grant from the Burton Morgan Foundation in 2007.
This event is part of the library’s
Winter/Spring 2010 Entrepreneurship Series of programs also made
possible with assistance from the Foundation. Prizes and snacks will
be provided
to audience members. To register for this free program, call
330.653.6658, ext. 1010 or email
